Nadine Bongaerts

Nadine Bongaerts is a synthetic biologist and entrepreneur with a passion for science education and technological developments that change the world.

She was born in the Netherlands and received her master degree in Biotechnology from the Delft University of Technology. Nadine currently lives and works in Paris for her PhD in Synthetic Biology at INSERM. Within her research, she aims at accelerating the drug development against the neglected diseases such as tuberculosis.

Next to her scientific endeavors, she is always seeking creative ways to share her knowledge with the wider public or different disciplines like arts or business. This has led to the co-founding of Biotecture in 2011, a company for education and communication on life sciences which works with leading universities, research institutions and museums to transfer scientific knowledge to the wider public. Moreover, she has been teaching synthetic biology at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague.

In 2012, Nadine Bongaerts joined the Kairos Society, a global community of young social entrepreneurs. As president of the Kairos Society The Netherlands, she has assisted numerous young entrepreneurs in crossing the national borders with their innovative ventures.

More recently, she has been appointed as the Vice President of Hello Tomorrow, a Paris-based nonprofit organisation that connects scientists, entrepreneurs and investors worldwide to accelerate technologies from the lab to the market.

A passionate and engaging speaker, Nadine Bongaerts gives keynotes about the possibilities of synthetic biology, a relatively new branch of science which makes it possible to design organisms. She also gives talks on entrepreneurship and science communication or moderates conferences.
